Entering The Animatrix
Monday, April 17th, 2006
Netflix provided a great downtime treat this weekend. I queued and received The Animatrix which was the Wachowski brothers Anime-inspired and homage to Japanese mangas. Cross the cultural divide of how Japanese culture views these movies as art rather than cartoon is both fascinating and enlightening.
The DVD features 9 animated shorts ranging in length from 6 minutes to 16 minutes. All from noted Japanese directors and animation studios, the scripts are written by both third parties and in some cases the Wachowskis exclusively. The animations were very stylized a la Ghost In The Shell and the CG rendered Final Fantasy movie. I was most impressed by the CG rendering of Final Flight Of The Osiris, which I captured below for the purpose of whetting your appetite.
