And now… deep thoughts on Leopard

By Emile • Nov 2nd, 2007 • Category: General

It seems everyone and their spouse is chiming in on the GUI enhancements / f**kups put through in the most recent release of the Apple OS. I’ve been meaning to chime in on this but only until I’ve actually used the OS and understood the intuitive wrestling that goes on behind it.
Having said that, […]

The Year In Review

By Emile • Jan 2nd, 2007 • Category: General

Through ups and downs of the past year, it’s been a very fun and interesting ride. Here’s what’s piqued my interest the most:
News, Stories, Software, People, & Places

Apple is taunting us with yet another WWDC and who knows what will turn up
FileMaker is still fun to run and develop in. I purchased 8.5 […]

iTunes 7: Apple’s Piss & Vinegar

By Emile • Sep 20th, 2006 • Category: General

I don’t like being quick to judge things (at least, not very often), but sometimes I just can’t help it. I’ve held off riding the deluge and tidal wave of bad blood towards iTunes new UI because I wanted to form my own opinion. But the kneejerk reaction was simple: I don’t like […]

Google Releases Google Video Player For Mac

By Emile • Jun 6th, 2006 • Category: General

It must have been announcement day over at the GooglePlex, but they released the Google Video player, which:

Watch videos downloaded from Google Video
Browse scenes within a video using thumbnails
Skip to anywhere in the video, even if that portion hasn’t downloaded yet

I remember this conference most especially for Steve Jobs line to the attending developers:
“It’s not dead for them [Mac users], but it is for you.”

Porting Isn’t As Easy As It Seems

By Emile • Mar 27th, 2006 • Category: General

Yeah, that almost sounds self-explanatory, but too often it is not. Porting has not been something I have been innately familiar with as nearly all of my projects have started out from scratch or been superficial modifications to an existing codebase… but Porting?! Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh Porting has turned me into a drinking man.
I have been […]

More about XP on a Mac

By Emile • Mar 18th, 2006 • Category: Design, General, Software

For those who are less-enthusiastic or just don’t care about XP on Apple hardware, you may find company with other readers of the TUAW (The Unofficial Apple Weblog). In the poll results pictured above, it a fair number of Mac users are indifferent to the possible presence of XP on Apple. For […]

The Microsoft iPod

By Emile • Feb 27th, 2006 • Category: Design, Entertainment, General, WWW

While working on some more serious and less frivolous posts, I came across this post at The Unofficial Apple Weblog - the video is hysterical, but the veracity of the punchline is alarming. Hit play and see for yourself:

v6: This is your iLife…

By Emile • Feb 6th, 2006 • Category: General

So after giving myself the time and space to play with iLife, I’m happy to say I’m impressed. It is a solid upgrade but one that will not be necessary for all users. There is something for everyone.

Reason #2568 why one should love Apple MacBooks

By Emile • Feb 6th, 2006 • Category: Design, General

I bare a couple of issues with the new Apple MacBook (Pro) but this post isn’t necessarily about those issues, most of which are processor transition & software related, but moreso about Apple.
Apple has been receiving a few uppercuts regarding customer service in the iPod related departments. And just today, in the […]
