Taking Stock of Thyself & The Blogosphere

“Convention” is an interesting pattern and an interesting word. Most especially because it can encompass several things (when it comes to technology): ease of use, building upon tradition, a standard but it can also mean complacency. Of late, I have come to despise complacency because I see it creeping in and rearing its ugly face at the most inopportune moments. While I can mention it in both personal and professional instances, I am only referring to the professional instances for the sake of not boring you to death.

Studying and working in total juxtaposition interface, graphic, and web design is an interesting conundrum. And I think that most readers and web users, like myself, are inundated with the flood of news, info, junk for the mind (read: tabloids), that comes through the TV, print world, various fora, and most especially the internet via site visits and the RSS newsreaders which sometimes perpetuate the vicious cycle of 1000 unread new posts.

So I’m breaking from the pattern of competing with being the thousandth person to tell you Apple is releasing a Product Red iPod. (They are. And it’s f***ing brilliant. www.JoinRed.com ) So take these words and take heed: I’m changing the format around here. I’ll be moving away from the default K2 theme I’ve been employing for ages. It’s beautiful, but it’s tired and I’m tired of it. I want to give people a crack of something new: of design, not style.  And so, I’m beginning now.

What That Means
First and foremost, I’m going to be putting some posts “on layaway”, if you will.  Many new work opportunities are frothing and I’m actively pursuing.  Some major new business and fantastic cutting edge web design stuff (on a major news site), of which I can not talk about yet, but hopefully soon.  In the meantime, I still intend to post the very best I can but some may be smaller blips on the proverbial radar rather than long and extended posts, much like this.  I’m also going to be returning to my Wordpress roots and bringing a new and improved version of the Elvgren theme back to the site.  Don’t worry, Taft is on the drawing board as well…

As For FileMaker
I haven’t stopped my love affair with this desktop database and there are some additional projects which I will be announcing here shortly.  I will certainly be keeping my pulse on some of the new and exciting things that keep bubbling up.  And there are lots of ideas to explore… How about Flex and FileMaker Pro reporting through the Web Viewer for starters???

Last
but not least, is the fact that I have this near-sick love of examining process fulfillment, business processes, workflows, etc. and I love discussing that here.  That bug o mine is certainly not going anywhere.  Want a topic: 30% of all web transactions end in failure!!!  For very basic business reasons, that’s appalling.

Until next time, happy designing…
