Adding Multiple Email Alias Addresses in Apple Mail

on Jun 07 in General

On the heels of the post about building your business with email, I found an interesting tip buried in the Apple help pages:

Picture 2.jpgAdding multiple email alias addresses to an account
If you have multiple email addresses that are aliases to an email account, you can set up Mail so you can send messages from any of the addresses. You don’t need to add a separate account for each address. For example, Tom Clark could send messages from tclark@example.org or the alias webmaster@example.org.

To use multiple email aliases:

  • Open Mail and choose Mail > Preferences.
  • Click Accounts and from the Accounts list, select the account to which messages from your aliases get sent.
  • In the Email Address field in the Account Information pane, enter all the email addresses that are aliases for your account, separated by commas. For example, webmaster@example.org, sales@example.org, support@example2.org.
  • Close the Preferences window and click Save in the message that appears.
  • When you compose messages, all the email addresses are listed in the Account pop-up menu and you can choose which email address to use as the From address.

When Mail retrieves messages, it displays them in a single mailbox. You can create a rule to direct the messages to different mailboxes, as needed.

I can’t even begin to tell you how I could have used this tip three years ago…

    Hi,

I found this out myself, and have created both new e-mail addresses and aliases, but the messages never arrive in my MAIL inbox when sent to the new address/alias…

The alias/new address is visible in the account dropdown though…

    Am I missing something here?

    Thanks!
