Courage & Katrina
3/7/2006 – 4:04 pm | by EmileI’m a huge Dave Letterman fan (long before the video of below) and with all of the words and emotions that were coming out of New York City at the time of 9/11, this was Dave at his best (in his first broadcast after 9/11), when the city was still reeling with shock.
I am also a fan of Giuliani who is obviously praised by Letterman, and rightly so. But when we still read about all of the horrors and sheer stupidity that was the handling of Hurrican Katrina, it is quick and easy to see that the leadership of someone like Giuliani, was not and still IS NOT present in a place that is in such dire need of getting things done. The places hardest hit by Katrina are still locked in an entangled web of bureacracy and red tape and a lack of vision on the necessities of getting help to the people that need it most. It’s an abomination on the face of this country and it’s unfortunate to put it *lightly*.
It is, without question, a cauldron of political venom that can overflow onto any political candidate. It will be even more interesting to see how this plays out.

Thanks for posting that. I’m a big Letterman fan as well, but had never seen this. I guess I got to a point in the days after 9/11 where I couldn’t watch TV anymore. But I sure wish I would have seen this. And I’m glad that I finally did. It’s very moving, and I think more so because it comes from Letterman. You just don’t think of him this way. Thanks again!
As far as Katrina goes, I have to agree with you. There seems to be no effective leadership down there, and what little leadership is there seems to be undermined by “higher-ups.” There were a lot of big and bold promises made after Katrina, and from what I’ve seen and heard, those promises have not been kept. It’s a tragedy on top of a tragedy, and the people who live (and lived) there deserve better.
We can only hope that some positive change will eventually come from this. As you said, it will be interesting to see “how this plays out.”
Keep posting Denis — we sure appreciate what you do!

Thanks for the kudos Tim. I think my next post will be on how Pres. Bush surely reads this blog!! At least it seems so as when I woke up this morning to CNN, he was announcing ‘plans’ for more funding to come to the Gulf Coast area:

I wonder which blogs can count the President as a reader?

Wow! Behold the mighty power of the Blog!!!
Maybe in an upcoming post you could propose some new income tax deductions — specifically intended to help FileMaker developers?!?
