Firefox CSS ‘x-Ray’ Extension

By Emile • Mar 29th, 2006 • Category: General

Care of CSSinsider.com, I found a SWEET Firefox extension that displays the wrapping tags of any element on a web page.  Rather than flipping between the view-source page/tab and the actual rendered page, this is a perfect solution.

America

By Emile • Mar 29th, 2006 • Category: General, Noteworthy

“Everything that is wrong with America can be fixed by everything that is right with America”
I believe it with nearly fiber of my being, but most epecially when I read this:
The Pentagon has also found a novel way of recovering some of the $240 billion it has spent to fight its losing war in Iraq: […]

Quick Update: Feeds are fixed

By Emile • Mar 27th, 2006 • Category: General

Yesterday I noticed a sudden drop off in users viewing the site through feedreaders.  I subsequently found an XML error in the site’s RSS feed-generating code.  It’s all been fixed and thanks to those of you who emailed (I’m looking at you Joan).  Please let me know if there are any additional problems!
Toodles!

Porting Isn’t As Easy As It Seems

By Emile • Mar 27th, 2006 • Category: General

Yeah, that almost sounds self-explanatory, but too often it is not. Porting has not been something I have been innately familiar with as nearly all of my projects have started out from scratch or been superficial modifications to an existing codebase… but Porting?! Oooooooohhhhhhhhhhh Porting has turned me into a drinking man.
I have been […]

Why Yahoo Publisher Network Is Playing Catchup to Adsense

By Emile • Mar 27th, 2006 • Category: General

It may go unnoticed but I can’t help but contend that on a main blog page, Yahoo Publisher Network just sucks.
The main draw to this site is that Taft Wordpress theme. Yet on this blog is a frequency of words that appears more than Taft. FileMaker would be one of them. A host […]

Quark Rebranding (Again)

By Emile • Mar 24th, 2006 • Category: General

For those not following the story and the buzz around the Quark logo, Advertising/Design Goodness had posted the story a couple of days ago on the new new logo.
It’s also up on 37Signals blog, it’s fun to follow because of the VERY vocal thoughts on logos and logo design. It is well known that we […]

Who would you want to be?

By Emile • Mar 23rd, 2006 • Category: General, Noteworthy, WWW

So the idea came up from a blog post on MikeIndustries.com and is along the lines of if you could sit with anyone at dinner… So to paraphrase:
Who would you most like to be? And in one sentence, why?
I would maybe add a dimension in asking who would you want to know - after […]

Updates

By Emile • Mar 21st, 2006 • Category: General

For those that don’t follow Tim Dietrich’s FileMaker Addict blog, you should. If anything, it’s an eye-opener on what other enterprising developers are doing with the FM prowess in addition to just being an interesting read! Tim has also just posted a new interview with Jesse Feiler, take a look…
The second to last […]

The surprising truth of ugly websites

By Emile • Mar 21st, 2006 • Category: General

There’s some intuitive answer to this but I can’t figure it out. This seems to be a growing pattern and it annoys the hell out of me when you hear of seemingly-dodgy or untrustworthy sites rolling in $10,000 with a butt-ugly design and a couple of Adsense ads. Perhaps it’s because the ad […]

Zephoria on ‘Youth Speak or Web 2.0 Company?’

By Emile • Mar 21st, 2006 • Category: Design, General, Software, WWW

As per Zephoria.org :
When did “q” gain the right to replace “k”? Or “ew” sounds be represented with 3+ “o”s? And since when is “z “such a popular letter in English? And why are we dropping “e”s? And how did words get dots in them?!?!
People often complain to me about the youth speak that i […]
