The ultimate FileMaker desire… currently.

It just occurred to me: consolidation of a pre-7 multi-file solution into one nice and neat single-file/multi-table solution. This task is still FAR TOO cumbersome and quite frankly, just a pain in the ass. And there is simply no reason for it.

Illustrator and other professional apps always painlessly upgrade your original files to the newer file formats, and while FM7+ does this, it doesn’t take advantage of FM’s greatest new feature of multiple tables in a single file/database.

I am currently in the middle of rewriting from the ground up a solution which has been working since version 4.0, which then was upgraded to every incremental step until 6.0. The process of upgrading to the 7 file format has not been simplified enough. That’s my gripe right now…

FileMaker Advisor has recently published a great article on consolidating your solution. I strongly recommend reading it as well as taking a look at the series of migration articles FM has put forth on this very topic. *I’ll update the post with the link to those migration articles as soon as I find it*

Having gotten all that off my chest, we now return to our regularly scheduled programming….
