The current issue of Business Week has an interesting article on the necessity of math and the kind of deep analysis that is occurring at all sorts of levels on everyone by everyone. Read the article. But for those of you who wonder who you are and how you do what you do, let me take the time to explain it to you (c/o the free AWStats package):
The majority of you have screen resolutions in the following order of popularity:
1024 x 768 - 45%
1280 x 1024 - 20%
800 x 600 - 5%
1152×864 - 4%
…
Thankfully 86% of you have a 32-bit screen which means you can view millions of colors rather than thousands.
When it comes to browsers, the predominant majority of you have your wits about you 
Firefox - 48%
IE - 33%
Safari - 13%
Opera - 3%
Mozilla, Netscape, Mozilla Compatible Agent, Camino, and Konqueror are all under 1%
75% of you are on Windows, while 20% are on Mac, the remaining difference is between Linux and unknown OSes. Is this indicative of the split in the FileMaker user community between Mac and Windows users/developers? Hmmm….
One of the more interesting stats is the mashup of browsers and platform that visit the site. In descending order, they are:
IE 6 / Win XP - 27%
Firefox 1.5 / Win XP - 22%
Firefox 1.0.7 / Win XP - 8%
Safari / Mac - 7 %
Firefox 1.5 / Mac - 5%
IE 6 / Win 2000 - 2%
…
Most of you come through Google, then Yahoo, then MSN, then AltaVista, then AOL…
And most interestingly, most of you are based out of the NorthEast US, with some west coast folks (Apple are you reading this? HIRE ME!!), a strong contingent comes from the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, and Denmark (would that be you Michael?) and a small sprinkling of you call from Bangalore, Buenos Aires, Chile, Japan, and New Zealand.
