A return to the mighty keyboard!

NYC can offer a warm welcome

In poor form, I must say, I vanished from the keyboard and computer these past couple of days to take some time off and recuperate away from a blinking cursor. It’s nice to come back feeling as refreshed as I feel, though the pre-holidays mess I left at home is enough to drive me to drinking. Having said that, I could have used Wordpress’ timed/future-dated posts feature to help manage keeping readers interested, but I was lazy I decided you needed a vacation as much as I did (see #1). The guest blogger idea is intriguing and I want to look into it more. If you’re interested drop me a line via email (denis [at] secretweaponlabs [dot] com). Some interesting updates
In a recent article on the web, I noticed that The NY Times is beginning to note the trackbacks and incoming links to individual newspaper artciles. Note the Related Blogs area at the top (I know it would have been better with an actual link, but hey, I tried…)
The NY Times is now linking to blogs
Anyone out there know if this is a new feature, or have I been a space cadet the entire time while reading the Times on the web?

For the bloggers amongst us
In case you’ve been living under a rock for some time now, you wouldn’t know that Wordpress has evolved to version 2.0. A slew of interesting, yet tepidly-recived features, earmark this release. Form your own opinion by downloading it and installing it. But BE SURE TO BACKUP YOUR DATABASE BEFOREHAND. Check out Wordpress.org for a list of some of the new features as well as the redesign of the Wordpress site. A broken link had me end up on the new 404 page which is interesting to say the least and seems effective at helping users. I like it a lot and I can see the thought and care that went into it. I think it’s safe to say that the same care goes into Wordpress as well. See for yourself:

The Holidays

Flower

Brookstone wireless indoor/outdoor speaker… almost wouldn’t be the holidays without family and most importantly, presents!! I’ve acquired two things which surprised me. First off was a weather-resistant indoor/outdoor wireless speaker from Brookstone (pictured to the right). You can check it out here. I have yet to really sink my teeth into it and pump some iTunes, but it’s on the agenda and I’ll post some thoughts on it. Second, and this one is schweet, is a new Canon Digital Rebel XT with a 1gig CF card. I’ve been lusting for one of these for some time and I’ll be sure to post some new and interesting photography on the site.In the meantime, I’m back to a major FileMaker project that will possibly use SyncDek for multi-user syncing. I’ll be sure to post my thoughts and post-mortem afterwards. Until then, happy FileMaking!

  1. Hey, just so you know Taft is slightly broken in Wordpress 2.0.

The bottom of the page looks wrong with Firefox 1.5. (not sure with other browsers)

  2. Jordan,

Thanks for being one of the first to try Taft on Wordpress 2.0. I have yet to install it, but as soon as I do, I’ll be able to test out the theme and I’ll make the fixes as well as announce the updates here.

    Thanks again!

  3. Yeah, It’s only a small glitch, most of the wordpress 2.0 changes/improvements seem to be in the admin side.

Generally the taft theme works perfectly, (I did’nt have to do anything to get it to work) , aside from still saying it’s powered by wordpress 1.5 :D

Anouther problem I had but fixed with the theme was that their’s no way to get to the static pages from it, or to the login/admin pages. I fixed the admin thing with some code borrowed from the standard theme, and I don’t use pages so I did’nt worry about the other. Perhaps there is room for this in a new version?

Taft is really a nice theme, a little big to download for visitors but I don’t get any anyway :
