Small blog update…

I recently discovered a small problem with some of the Theme Switcher code and the Recent Comments plugin that was part of the Elvgren theme on this site (all you Elvgren users don’t have to worry about this), but I’ve turned off the cookie that stores your theme preference, so the site may suddenly display in the K2 theme for some of you.

And now back to our regularly scheduled program… Google Analytics has been problematic and hasn’t shown a thing in the site report for the past 24 hours. I know people are visiting the site, the other stats programs (Webalizer and Awstats) say so, but the Google servers must still be getting hammered by the response to the Analytics program release.

I’d be curious on some other Analytics users impressions.

  1. I was very quick off the mark in signing up to the new service and it took my stats well over 30 hours to start showing up. Don’t rely on the front page for telling you the stats are ready, make sure you check the stats pages themselves.

I’m very impressed all in all. I haven’t seen many other stats packages to compare though.

  2. Google Analytics Part II

Ok so I have had the Google Analytics working on Balanced News Blog for two or three days now. I checked yesterday and it said I had 40 visitors each day (for two days). Now this is a little strange since the advertising stats on AdSense, and CJ, tell…

  3. Awstats is cool and I recommend it. It’s open source so take a look at it. 48 hours later, all zero of my visitors are enjoying the blog, at least according to Google Analytics. Hmmmm….

  4. Thanks for the recommendation. I have tried Awstats before, but that was years ago before I knew enough to actually make it work. I’ll give it another go.

  5. Hi Denis,

I’ve also setup Analytics over 30 hours ago and have yet to see any data in the reports. Micfo offer a trial version of Urchin as well, so I’ll be comparing results between Google’s version of Urchin, my hosting company’s Urchin and my trusted ol’ AwStats.

Should be interesting to see the discrepancies between them…

  6. I’m on 48 hours now, I set it up on ANOTHER site as well and STILL 0 users! I noticed that the FAQ noted that the Urchin script has to be placed below ALL of the META tags. I thought I did this, but a quick check proved that I had not. I’ve fixed it and am still waiting for an update to the reports.

It’s really starting to piss me off frankly…

  7. What I find somewhat amusing is that they sell this new service as a solution for small businesses but, being a free service, these businesses will have no recourse when things go pear-shaped, when reports don’t update and when data doesn’t match their results from other sources.

A real analysis system with proper technical support would benefit any business trying to benefit from web stats analysis. Google Analysis should only be used for fun by bloggers and people curious to know who visits their site, IMHO.

Still waiting for anything to show up. (and yep, it’s been below all meta tags all that time so no reason to be a problem at my end!)
