UPDATE
Ok, so maybe it hasn’t worked out “splendidly” but the transition to Leopard has proved more fruitful than I thought it would.  Most notably, Quick Look is a lifesaver and a MUST for anyone having to consistently open MS Office documents and images on a regular basis.
